Annual
international marathon
This
event is held on Tahiti's sister island of Moorea. Cash prizes worth a
total of US$ 10,000 will be divided up among the first 6 men and the first
3 women to finish the 1998 International Marathon. The event is divided
into 2 races to encourage participation. There is the 42 km full Marathon,
which starts early morning in Maatea on Moorea's south coast. The finish
line for both races is the village of Haapiti at the Moorea Beachcomber
Parkroyal. That night, an award ceremony is held at this hotel with a
folkloric dance show and buffet for Marathon participants. Each Marathon
participant can enjoy water activities and excursions on Moorea before
the start of the race.

Heiva I Tahiti
This
is the oldest, the biggest and the most famous of all yearly celebrations
in Tahiti. Visitors from all over the world come to Tahiti each year just
to witness this month-long, fun-filled, colorful, entertaining and amusing
celebration, during which life in these islands focuses on what Tahitians
do best- having fun.
